TANGENTE
MOMENT'HOMME
Montreal’s Tangente was responsible for a long-running series highlighting the male choreographic voice. Founded in 1980, the organization is a presenter for contemporary dance and serves as a documentation and archives centre. Artistic programming includes a broad swath of creators and aesthetics from the local, national and international contemporary dance community.
The Tangente series Moment’homme was launched in 1983. Running for five years, it was intended to encourage new ways of reflecting on dance from a male point of view. Returning in 1997 as Moment’homme: Danses Gaies, this incarnation of the series was committed specifically to works surrounding homosexuality. Three years later, Tangente eliminated the subtitle “danses gaies” in a move to avoid marginalization and thus, the homosexual perspective was no longer the declared premise for the series. The last edition of Moment’homme was presented in 2009.
