In celebration of the 50th anniversary of The National Ballet of Canada, The Dancers’ Story gathered five generations of dancers to share in weaving together the past and the present. Reminiscence through movement and conversation create a dynamic presentation of a piece of Canada’s ballet history.

Prima Ballerina with The National Ballet of Canada for 25 years, VERONICA TENNANT won hearts and accolades for her dramatic talents dancing with such luminaries as Erik Bruhn, Rudolf Nureyev and Mikhail Baryshnikov. Since 1989, she has garnered considerable acclaim as a gifted filmmaker, speaker, writer and producer/director, with her works winning several awards, including the prestigious International Emmy Award. Forming Veronica Tennant Productions in 1997, she has created an extensive list of highly praised programs onstage and for television. Lauded as a “great communicator” and the subject of CBC’s Life & Times of Veronica Tennant: Renaissance Woman, Tennant has also built an impressive reputation as a speaker, narrator, actor, broadcaster, as well as choreographer. Veronica Tennant’s honours include: Inductee, Canada’s Walk of Fame, Canada Council’s Walter Carsen Prize for Excellence in the Performing Arts, The Governor General’s Performing Arts Award for Lifetime Achievement, and honorary doctorates from the Universities of Brock, York, Simon Fraser, Toronto, and McGill. Veronica Tennant was invested as an Officer to the Order of Canada in 1975. In 2004, she was elevated to the rank of Companion of the Order of Canada, the country’s highest honour.

MARK ADAM, a former professional dancer with The National Ballet of Canada, Ballet Arizona and Ballet de Montréal, has combined his twin passions of dance and film into a successful career since 1991. Since 1994, he has directed, produced and edited more than 25 dance-based films and television programs for Kaeja d’Dance, The National Ballet of Canada, Toronto Dance Theatre, Bravo! and CBC. These include Old Country, Departure, Zummel, Sarah, Witnessed, 1939 and Resistance (with Allen Kaeja). He completed three films for CBC’s “Opening Night”; The Imprint of Water with Dominique Dumais; The Dancers’ Story: 50 Years of The National Ballet of Canada, and Old Country with Allen Kaeja.
