This exhibition has been culled from the Judy Jarvis archives held by Dance Collection Danse. How fortunate we are that Judy Jarvis was an archivist by nature in that from a young age she voraciously saved and organized significant documents and memorabilia. This is particularly true with regard to her professional life. Her collection includes photographs, correspondence, posters, programmes, essays, notebooks, newspaper clippings, paintings, scrapbooks, video and audio tapes, books, props and costumes and company files.

For this exhibition I have selected articles and images that, in combination with Biographical text, will hopefully allow you the opportunity to either make the acquaintance of or reminisce over this intriguing Canadian dance figure.

While Jarvis was a significant player in the evolution of modern dance in Canada, she was also an important link to the past by virtue of her unique ties to the great European champion of modern dance, Mary Wigman. Included in this exhibition are examples of exclusive photos, correspondence and tape recorded dialogue illuminating the important relationship between these two dance artists of different generations.

You will also notice some pages have images in the left sidebar. Like the images in the Gallery and Press sections, when these thumbnails are clicked-on you will be shown the full image.
