LoieFuller1906smThe female solo dancer was a great attraction on Vancouver stages, and three dancers from the first, ground-breaking group of soloists from the United States would visit the city: Loie Fuller, the darling of the Folies-Bergère, where she made her début in 1892; Gertrude Hoffman, who was a hit in 1908 with her Salomé imitation, created for a top New York vaudeville house; and Ruth St. Denis, who would establish the Denishawn Dance School with Ted Shawn in Los Angeles in 1915.
