By the 1980s, TDT's status as one of Canada's foremost modern dance companies drew people into the organization. However, it became evident that many did not share the artistic vision of the three founders. I think it was immoral for designers, technical people and administrative people to work with TDT when they didn't like us or like what we were doing artistically. Dancers would stay and complain about the choreographers (Peter, Trish and me), pressuring us to bring in other choreographers and making us feel very 'old school'.

I told them that TDT began as -- and continued to be -- a creative forum for Peter, Trish and me and if they didn't like what we were doing they should leave the company. Despite that, dancers would stay and stay and stay, taking our money, our time and our lives and we would find out, often years later, that they hated it -- hated me. They weren't our hostages. They should have left.
