Dancemakers alumni (artistic directors, dancers, choreographers, designers, production staff, managers, etc), particularly from the first 30 years of the company’s history, as well as the public, are invited to help complete identification of the Dancemakers photographic collection in the DCD archives. Images will be projected and notetakers will record information. The event will also be video recorded for DCD’s collection.
DCD’s 41st book publication, We Will Remember This: Nova Bhattacharya’s Svāhā!, will be released in Vancouver on July 12 just ahead of Nova Dance’s performances of Svāhā!.

Celia Franca was born in London, England in 1921. She began her ballet studies at age 4 and was a scholarship student at the Guildhall School of Music and the Royal Academy of Dancing. She performed with Ballet Rambert before joining Dame Ninette de Valois’s Sadler’s Wells Ballet (now The Royal Ballet) in 1941

One of Canada’s most celebrated male dancers, Frank Augustyn trained at Canada’s National Ballet School, joining The National Ballet of Canada in 1970. In 1973, he and Karen Kain won a special award for the best pas de deux at the International Ballet Competition in Moscow
