This year’s Lawrence & Miriam Adams Dance History Lecture was led by distinguished scholar and longtime collaborator Seika Boye, PhD
As the 2026/2027 Artist Researcher-In-Residence, emerging curator and researcher Dedra McDermott will be collaborating with Dance Collection Danse
Curated by Seika Boye, this nationally touring exhibition brings over 70 years of Black dance and performance history in Canada into focus, spotlighting stories long left out of dominant narratives.
Join dance historian and Dance Collection Danse Executive & Curatorial Director Amy Bowring in an open rehearsal staging a re-enactment of a WWI patriotic performance presented in St. John’s, NL in 1917.
Sandra will be joined by Emilie Jabouin and Sebastian Oreamuno for a conversation about her experiences as a champion hoop dancer, award-winning Indigenous education leader, writer, artist, choreographer, and two-time TEDx Speaker.
This project seeks to uncover and share the untold stories of the dancers, choreographers, designers, administrators and their friends and family members who were profoundly affected by the HIV/AIDS crisis
DCD does more than keep Canada’s dance history – we search for it and provide researchers the opportunities and tools to discover stories for themselves, the community, and the collection.
Because dance was the fastest growing art form in Canada during the 1970s, 50 years later, DCD is facing the greatest demand in our history to care for the archival materials of the artists from the 1970s dance boom.
Ashley’s research will focus on the popular dance style known as Waacking and its original name Punking. Her research aims to highlight alternative contributors, creators, and practitioners of the Punking/Whacking/Waacking dance form
