Research – How DCD Grows
Research – how dcd grows
DCD does more than keep Canada’s dance history – we search for it and provide researchers the opportunities and tools to discover stories for themselves, the community, and the collection. For this summer’s campaign we’re highlighting the core things we do and where your donations go.
We need your help to preserve the legacies of Canada’s dance community. Please consider donating today.
Research is at the heart of everything we do
Over the years, Dance Collection Danse has provided an invaluable resource for authors, scholars, genealogists, students, curators, designers, journalists, and documentarians (and more). Our collection is a treasure trove of information just waiting for connections to be made. For the past three years, we’ve supported artist researchers-in-residence. The collection is an essential tool in the creation of our publications, exhibitions, and workshops.
Most recently DCD worked with Dancemaker’s Interim Artistic Producer Christina De La Cruz and 10 researchers in an intensive project to support their 50th anniversary. Each artist researcher will create at least one piece of writing, a photo essay, video compilation or multimedia work that will permanently live on Dancemakers’ website.
In the spirit of 15 Dance Lab and Miriam Adams’s own work, we have also created a bursary, supported by William J. S. Boyle, that offers emerging professional dance artists an opportunity to train, research, and investigate, with a financial commitment to help ease the burden of advancing their professional career.
We are currently busy researching and developing a new touring exhibition entitled Stories of HIV/AIDS and Dance in Canada, curated by Christopher House –launching in the Fall of 2025.
Research is an integral part of what we support at DCD and everyone has access to our collection for free. If you believe in what we do, please consider supporting us with a donation.
